It is almost unfathomable to the human brain to realise Snowdonia was created by the moving apart of two tectonic plates 400 million years ago in the Ocidivian period. A similar situation today is the North Atlantic Ridge where Iceland was created by the movement of plates in opposite direction and lava builds up on the sea floor to create a land mass
