My client in Bordeaux loves Ireland and he knew my heritage clearly. He wanted an Irish landscape that mixed the isolation and beauty the SW of Ireland with a mix of a lake and a waterfall in the base of the artwork. Being Irish and grown up on an isolated farm by the sea in North County Dublin and in County Waterford this commission was second nature.
I try to imagine the indescribable beauty of prehistoric Ireland - before humans arrived and created settlements. It was this we aimed for, you would expect a dinosaur to wander into this artwork. The clients collection of antique blue Chinese porcelain placed with perfect French style and green linen walls were the perfect backdrop for such a contemporary art piece
Materials: hints of resin were added to the white water areas to give the appearance of liquid – while gouache, oil pastel, copper powder, hints of gold leaf ,mineral dye powders and tinted chalk paints were laid down on a bed of textured plaster for the rocks 3 d effect
