Cliftonville in Margate is quickly becoming a Mecca for vintage seekers. Voted the 8 th best place to live in the world by Time Out Magazine 2023. It is full of fabulous finds in old sheds and rundown vintage shops. This vintage French chair from about 1850 was covered in a dated print but the wood structure is totally solid and no damage at all is visible. It is painted in a grey dark paint in a shabby chic style which goes very well with the multi colour print.
The striping in the print becomes a feature on the back of cushions, the red striped ball of the elephant and the geese in green stripe jail shirt is a theme.The piping on the cushion is the same red of the ball so as to tie in the fun elements and make it a story. The construction of the cushioning repair for the seat and back pad is second to none. Each brass tack is hand done ( not bought in a strip like a cheaper repair. This is old school method of restoration.
