ROUNDWAY DOWN - A vIEW FOR ALL

This is a donation for a care home for Alzheimers - the Hayward Centre in Devizes.
It all started just because a friend of mine Sarah Tyler did a charity event for her mother's care home in 2023 - she shaved her head to raise funds for the centre. I admired it so much I offered to make a big artwork for their communal room based on the nearby sloping chalk hills just near their windows.
Roundway Down is in Wiltshire - part North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural beauty . All the escarpment views westwards are fabulous with soft rolling of the hills and no sharp edges after eons of erosion on the slopes. Rare insects, butterflies and wildflowers make this a Nature lovers dream.

I wanted to highlight the dramatic skies and clouds to give a great contrast of the green colours of the Down as it heads down towards the flat of the valley. I worked in the areas of white against the dark grey and marine blue in an upwardly sweep to create the drama of a storm.
In the varying lights the flecks of gold powder and leaf really make the hills stand out and you see the varying highlight colours as well such as orange and lime and yellows and neutrals of the landscape
This artwork is also a thank you to my mother Jane, for her years of care of us all and who has dementia in care in Cape Town.

Original artwork

As mentioned above in the headline description this was a fantastic opportunity to give a new version of the Roundway Down in  approach to a new use of art materials to paint a classic landscape

Materials: this is a layered resin artwork in 3 layers with materials such as inks, sprays, mineral powders, pigments, gold and silver leaf added in each time as the resin is doing so it builds up a 3 d effect. I took out the shine of the resin to make it matt effect.
