Waves crashing on a black sand beach, a new land created from the depths of the Atlantic Ocean. This is Iceland.
I had longed to be able to master the peaks and troughs of crashing waves. I studied it over and over, the movement and the depths of colour from trough to peak, the shape of the wave as it builds up. I made it harder on myself now as I wanted to create it from above the surface of the Icelandic shallow seas.
I mastered it in the end… a force of my imagination. I try my best and hope you like it.
Using my layering of resin to create a base of shallow sea, I could only imagine what it would look like from above. I imagined the sea bed as uneven with shading and less rocky base as the waves neared the beach. I built up 2 layers of depth – a matt effect… and as the waves formed in my mind I added paints and inks in a irregular pattern as waves do… some advancing and others trailing behind. Mineral powders, chalk, sand, inks and crushed quartz crystal powder on the tip of a brush to the resin layers and added and taken away till perfect.

White chalk paint with mineral powders, sand, quartz powder, inks, silver leaf are added with spray to create the waves.
Epoxy matt and shine effect by dulling the shine by sandpaper and sprays.
