The brilliant allure, mystery and and history of the mineral Gold has shaped our civilisations for tens of thousands of years

Inspiration for these new gold works is the great buildings of France and gilt work in pure gold and the once private collections of minerals of Louis XIV now held in Natural History Museum at Jardin Des Plantes in Paris.
The decorative arts had its greatest period of innovation when the King gathered the finest craftsmen, architects and stonemasons and allowed them to create freely and push the boundaries in luxury and opulent design.

The most beautiful furniture, art, palaces and jewellery using materials from the farthest corners of the vast French Empire like gold, rare woods, precious stones and dazzling marbles would influence the world for hundreds of years and even to this day. The finest piece of furniture from that time would fetch millions at auction today.
