ELEPHANT WINGS 1850 FRENCH SOFA

It is almost tragic to sell it. I will never find a piece like this again. Dated to 1850 it was probably a centre piece of a Bourgeois well to do country family in their salon ( sitting room). It was in perfect shabby chic condition and I did not want to oveergild or even touch the original gold. I left it. I hope the original owner would approve.

The next stage ws to strip off the aged grey velvet that had covered it for 175 years .It was really a duck egg blue and very nice in fact but I had other ideas. The seat was restored inside totally to give it a lovely bounce like brand new ( not like sitting in old straw) and then lovingly recovered. We put original brass aged nail tacks individually around the edges . A spectacular result I think.
